استاد خیال / Ustad Khyal – شیر محمد غزنوی / Shir Mohammad Ghaznawi – (Unknown) Female Choir or Solo Female Singer – 45 rpm on Arabphone Label

Shir Mohammad Ghaznawi – Yâr Ba Man Bi Wafahee Mikonad

Here is exactly the kind of ep I like to discover. I mean : 3 tracks and no credits, all the work to do. So it was not very hard to put a name on both songs of side A. Considering the first one, the voice of Shir Mohammad Ghaznawi was easy to recognize. The appellation “Shir” is probably referring to the Persian word “شير” which means “Lion”. I would be happy to learn more about how he received this nickname.

The second track is a song by Ustad Khyal that was already available on the web. We can see on this video a beautiful line-up with notably Ustad Mohammad Omar playing rubab.

Ustad Khyal – Ay Setamgar Tu Tshera…

The surprise is appearing on the side B:

Female Unknown Voice(s) of Radio Kabul – Shokh e Djafar Kâr Kodjâ Miravi ?

A female singer (or maybe a choir ?) is singing as you can hear a very catchy song, including all the ingredients of a good Kabul radio song of the time: rubab, flute, drums.

I think that this ep was released in Iran during the 70’s but songs appearing on it were probably taken on 78 rpm records produced by Soviet label in the 60’s, as at least the song of Shir Mohammad Ghaznawi seems having been featured on one of these records with almost the same title (it is not so rare on records of this era to meet same songs on different records with a title a little bit different).

Any information about singers names of the Female Choir group would be welcome 🙂
