جلیل زلاند (یا عبدالغفور برشنا) / حسیب دلنواز – Hasib Delnawaz / Jalil Zoland (or Abdolghafur Breshna) – 45 rpm on Oriental label

Abdolghafur Breshna – “Ey Saraban”

Label of the Royal edition of the song, here named “Karevan”

This beautiful 45 rpm released on the Iranian label Oriental is featuring some major Afghan artists and famous songs. This first one “Saraban” (sometimes named Karavan) is based on a poem written by Saadi . It was interpreted by many singers from Tajikistan to Iran but most famous versions are coming from Afghanistan by Ustad Saraban. Here, the multi-talented artist Ustad Abdolghafur Breshna. He is not credited on the label but there is a second version issued on Royal label on which he is, as you can see above. However there is a doubt as many people think this is Ustad Jalil Zoland who is actually singing on this one. The versions featuring on both 45 rpm are exactly the same. Ustad Breshna, also known as painter, was the Kabul radio director during the 40’s and earlys 50’s. Ustad Jalil Zoland was the Radio Kabul manager during the 50’s, so… Maybe there was a confusion when the label was printed. It seems indeed that the majority think this is Ustad Zoland who is the interpret here.

On the second side of this vinyl, there is another important song sung by Hasib Delnawaz. Important because this is I think the first time on this site that we can introduce Ustad Neynawaz, a major compositor of Kabul radio from the 50’s to the end of his life. On this song, he has written the lyrics and composed the music.

Hasib Delnawaz – “Qalin Baf”

This song was not so much interpreted later by other artists and so it could be the first time you’re listening to it, hope you will enjoy.
